3 Oily Skin Foundation Reviews - High End & High Street

3 Oily Skin Foundation Reviews - High End & High Street - Pale Aesthetic

I have weird skin. Weird skin for the fact that I don't really get spots and I have a pretty even skin tone, but before you go ahead and hate on me for that, I must add that I do have incredibly oily skin. I'm talking crappy foundation only lasting an hour, and detailed contouring or bronzer on top of that only about half an hour, so because of this reason, I am a huge fan of matte finishes. So the reason I wear foundation is not to cover up but to reduce shine.

I feel like I'm completely alone in this area, as every blog I read and every Youtuber I watch, seems to be desperately looking for high coverage and a dewy glow, neither of which appeals to me. So my hunt is a pretty lonely one, but there must be others like me, so recently I tested 3 foundations; 1 high end, 1 middle ground and 1 high street. All heavly researched and all with the potential to be my new holy grail...

Estee Lauder - Double Wear

3 Oily Skin Foundation Reviews - High End & High Street - Pale Aesthetic

This - thankfully for your bank balances - was sadly disappointing. Advertised as lasting 15 hours and perfect for oily skin, I had very high hopes. I had a sample of this while I was on holiday and although it was too dark for my skin, I was quite impressed, and after endlessly crushing on Lydia from Fashion Influx flawless matte skin on Instagram, I was sold. However when I purchased a full bottle in my shade (ECRU) something changed, I don't know if the hot Barcelona weather had just make my skin more manageable, but in the U.K. this just melted off. I gave it the benefit of the doubt to start with because I had a cold so the patchiness around my nose was justified, but I have been using this for 3 weeks now, and I don't think I will be purchasing this again. I do love the coverage though, so I will keep this for events, parties, or anytime when I don't need an all day stay.

Mac - Studio Fix Fluid

3 Oily Skin Foundation Reviews - High End & High Street - Pale Aesthetic

At a medium price range is Mac Studio Fix. Annoyingly given that this is the lightest shade (NC15), it's a tad dark for my skin, but I often expect that as I am very very pale. Coverage wise this is by far my favourite foundation and has been repurchased 3 times. It was my first 'high end' foundation after the days of dream matte mouse in school, and I think I will continue to come back to it. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it does give a good coverage, and is very mattifying, and set with a good powder it can last most of the day. If I'm at work it will fade, but thats because I am forever touching my face when stuck staring at the computer screen all day, but any other occasion, it sticks around.

Rimmel - Match Perfection

3 Oily Skin Foundation Reviews - High End & High Street - Pale Aesthetic

I really wanted to love this one, because the Rimmal Match Perfection powders are my favourite high street product! I usually avoid high street foundation, for no other reason then the fact they usually only go as light as ivory, which is too dark for my skin. However, I was so happy to spot this shade (Light Porcelain), as it is probably the most perfect match I have every experienced. It is very dewy but that can be fixed with the stay matte powder, but sadly, it doesn't hang around, it's literally gone a few minutes after stepping out the door. As for coverage, It comparable to rubbing water on your face, meaning it doesn't really do what a foundation should, by you know, providing a foundation.

I hope this helped some of you who are floating around in the same boat as me. Let me know in the comments if you've used any of these and your experiences, and of course, if you have any recommendations, I am more than happy to hear them!

  1. I have the same problem here: oily-annoying skin! I've also used the Estee Lauder foundation and wasn't blown away by it. Still, I've been using Le Teint Touche Éclat foundation by YSL for over a year now and I have to say that beside the fact that it covers everything amazingly and lasts all day with a good Sephora powder, it is also very saving! I've just finished my first bottle about a month ago. I highly recommend you trying it! :)

  3. Have you tried L'oreal infallible matte foundation? It comes in lighter shades and doesn't go on think. I don't have oily skin, but I've heard many great reviews about it and how long it stays on!

    1. I have tried the L'oreal true match, and it was far too dark so steered clear after that, but I've just seen it comes in porcelain, so may be worth a go! Thanks! :)

  4. I like Double Wear but I agree it's not an everyday foundation for me either - definitely one for staying shine-free on nights out :) Studio Fix Fluid is lovely too as it's not fully matte xx
